2 turns late because the capture of Groningen was falsely skewing the data for a spell. PP is still actually on top of the score, with 1 last hurdle on the road to a post-Matrix world. Being the one to conquer Groningen itself had 2 advantages: the gold, of course, but also a few turns to switch into the representation civic. With mercantilism for free specialists, this is quite profitable. Doubly so once we have colonies out there for intercontinental trade routes. It's been a great run, hats off to IcaMatrus who tried to fly too close to the sun with wonder spamming. There were 3 times when I envisioned a complete collapse for this game, including one that really should have happened but didn't. Thanks, RNGsus. Ynnek will make quite a contender once he's fully operational. He'll have lands and resources to rival PP and myself. It was a generous deal but I absolutely did need him to have any chance in this. Depending ont he player, I'm up steel, astro, press and liberalism ; down nationalism and military tradition. Early cannons and frigates will keep me afloat and safe for a while yet: not enough to conquer, but enough to deter (TM). PP will have cannons of his own before I can rush him on land, so I guess the plan is to control the oceans until my economy can convincingly surpass his, and I can leapfrog into tanks. For now I'll try and hurry up settling the big island in the center-north before Brunch can claim it. More pictures once it's been better charted. Plans for now: grow back population in the converted Dutch lands, hyper-specialize cities (NE and HE are up, a crazy specialist pump will come online soon), research for a placating economy and test the waters for sharks.

Finally found the time to read this. Because it's a lot to read!

I was really gutted when I realised I was going to lose this game, despite having Pyramids & GL and such a good start. (Resulting in one scorning message on WhatsApp. Sorry again.) But once ynnek and you were attacking me from both sides, I knew I was fucked. I didn't have much contact with ynnek, except for taking the city you sold to him. So it's understandable he'd rather attack me than you. Though geopolitically it made less sense. But that's that. Now I'll be following this spoiler with attention. Especially since you're the only one writing a spoiler.

One thing I wish I had last game was a turn progress reference, to see how I was doing. So I went a bit overboard this time around.

Without predictable AI timetables for wonder hoarding, it has meant a bunch of lulls where I couldn't research anything. To say nothing about how slow it is to dig yourself out of that hole of no good dedicated cottage lands and no pyramids for a widespread specialist economy. It's 235 turns in and I'm still working on the transition to cottages. Don't be fooled by the #1-2 GNP of late: free speech gives 2x culture, which counts towards the GNP numbers in F9. Ynnek converted to free speech too, which can become scary real fast. I know I'm still middle-of-the-pack $-wise as PP and Brunch have big techs on me (soon steam in Greece and rifling in Wales). I mean, look at that beauty. That's how it's done! I managed to get a good cottage city early on, now with +3$ for towns (free speech + press), but it's my only one and it's yet unfinished: Then the next cottage cities aren't quite up and running, with some cottages not even built in the 2nd best one: So I'm rushing to Democracy for faster cottage growth, then assembly line for factories, before heading out to tanks: By then, I may have pivoted into a sustainable town economy. We'll see. Stapel's capital will make a solid GP farm. Drydocks were built during the last turns of slavery, too, so naval combat will be favorable. I still don't have a clue how any of the other 3 want to play it out, diplomatically, in a post-Matrix game. Picking on Brunch would be just soulless. I'll try and expand at sea, build up defensive numbers and see how it goes for a few dozen turns.

It's a new era indeed and I'm very curious to see how it will unfold!
BrunchTime definitely took the most out of his land. Looks like a wonderful peaceful place to live. Anyway, I now know I should build wonders only to fail to finish them. Yet another tactic I'll copy from you. But only in multiplayer. One thing I forgot to mention. The reason I build the apostolic palace was that I was hoping to get the university of Sankore and the spiral minaret as well. Since I was leading in tech and had two high production cities, that would've been easy to achieve. But then you had to ruin it.

Building wonders did ... wonders ... to your development. Mostly. It was well balanced and didn't detract you from keeping up in infrastructure or military. The problem was painting a target on your back the size of Texas.
I think you'd have won easily if instead of kicking Ynnek out, you took the opportunity to work with him. That was my single biggest scare in the whole game. I only did the wonder fail gold thing because economically, I had no sustainable solution with my land. Maybe if I had managed to grab pyramids, I could've gone into a prolific specialist economy, but it didn't happen. It's working right now despite having a good start: the more you grab early, the fewer remain later. And Killer: PP just settled your old capital back. 150 turns later. Wasn't worth the settler, it seems

The only reason I took that northern former barb city from ynnek was because it 'completed' my peninsula. But you're right, I should've let him live there and try to bond with him. After all, you were a more obvious target for him. He'd get the north, I'd get the south. Would've been a good deal.

Crop yield in decline to 3rd as Ynnek jumps up with 17 cities to my and PP's 13. The 1700s will be the golden age of the Khmer empire for sure. Graphs are all over the place for now and I keep using my spiritual trait to switch governments like hats. A few turns of Org Rel + slavery for fast infrastructure in the new conquests while we work food for pop and wait for democracy to boost our cottages. Spices for furs sent. He's got rifling and cavalry now. But no navy to speak of. Let's see if he makes a move. Either way, I have full espionage visibility over his cities. Diplo message sent, hasn't even read it 4 days later. Little to trade. Maybe I should've pounced on him earlier to initiate diplo as soon as his rcaravels reached me. Oh well. Also: espionage visibility. Out at sea, we found viable spots for whales, A national park specialist city w/ forest preserves, Horses and cottages, Extra wine for trades, And a big one to be charted by way of explorer (with juicy bonus XP for a 2nd great general explorer medic)
