Glass fiber days are here! (or rather will be soon )
So a few months ago the local glass fiber provider finally blew a fiber in the empty tube that had been sitting in my home for 2 years.
Ofc a fiber dangling from a tube still isn't very usefull but in July, just before my holiday, they finally installed some sort of modem box that has UTP sockets. After my holiday I kept forgetting to tell the provider to switch it on, but I finally got to that and.... drumroll.....tomorrow my 50Mbit up/down should be working Past performance of the ISP leads me to believe tomorrow more likely will be next fiday, but still fast internet will be here soon.

Amazing stuff. They managed to get the whole thing working today, as promised.
Good stuff

Funny timing for such a message, ProPain. I'm working for KPN on the glass fiber department since yesterday.

They installed fibre to my area/house about 15 years ago so have always enjoyed pretty good speeds. I'm not prepared to pay for that sort of speed though!

Interestingly the fiber is cheaper than my ADSL + phone now. The only doubt I had was that the provider is a rather small company. But I decided to go ahead anyway, if service is bad I can always go back to my old setup
