This summer I heard a friend say "I expect to put a good 40 hours into it this week, and by the end of next week it might start being some fun"
Never felt attracted to the game when I played it on trial or someone else's account, but it's a huge time eater. Or it's boring.

Seriously, if he's off from work and not sleeping, he's on that game. I'm actually surprised I was able to have a phone conversation with him today. He doesn't even usually answer his phone if he's playing that. So I'd imagine just about anyone that played it would disappear from alot of things. It's quite sad actually. Geez WoW players, get a life...play Civ.

I can tell of 3-4 friends (from both online and real life) that went off the map when they got an account on that. A few came back to life, one even has a degree and works for your government, but either way, many people wonder where they've been.

But seriously, even if taking Civ's "one more turn syndrom" into account, how true your post can be. A geek line I'll keep in mind, just like Rik's famous signature.

Indeed rumor says it is extremely time consuming. I have two friends who are strong addicts but alas, cannot talk to them over the phone since they don't pick it up. Just as mauer said. One of them had divorced about a year ago and moved out and only then (!) started playing and another is working for the government, so that he can actually play almost all day long from work.
In Russia, there are also numerous home made servers but when community is small it is apparently less addictive. In any case, I'm not touching that stuff and am advising anyone to avoid it.

I also downloaded the CoH demo from Steam but haven't gotten around to trying it yet. My guess is I won't play it for a while as Sins has it's hooks completely into me. |
