Tubby's war with IT

Our IT department have finally figured out that CFC was a forum website. Since they have been blocking "all" forums for a while now (you can get an exception if it's work related) I find it rather curious that they all of a sudden figured it out.

In my life-long quest to thwart our IT dept and go where I want to on the internet, I was wondering if anyone could help me find the IP address for CFC forums. It appears as though they are just blocking names of websites as Hattrick.org is blocked but I can access it via the IP address (http://193.34.189.76). The problem with HAttrick is that once you log in it forwards you to a secure type server such as www80.hattrick.org which is blocked. So I can just look and can't bid on players or do anything else.

So I'll try to keep a list of websites that I frequent that are banned and if I can get around it by accessing the IP address. But I do currently need the IP address for CFC forums.

- Hattrick.org - limited access with IP address
- CFC forums - don't know IP

ahh the joys of working at a university...nothing is blocked. Sorry Tubby maybe one of the mods in power over there will be helpful.

You can find it out yourself...
(I am using you are using some kind of Windows)

Start-> execute
Type in cmd and press return

Type in: ping forums.civfanatics.com
Press return.

You now got the ip number but I don't know if you can access the forum directly in some way as this should be the same ip number than cfc itself.

BTW, good that this is a pure spam palace and not a forum, otheriwse it would be blocked, too...

(BTW, here CFC and Hattrick are blocked too...)

HEy I know what not to look at. besides if you delegate your work right ...you shoudlnt have anything to do but delegate. Its good to have undergrad slaves....err workers

always used to get round this by running the site through babelfish or something like that, gives you an alternate link which you can get too that way.

might be a bit time consuming though.

That may not work, depends is if IT is blocking icmp packets (of which ping is one of). From a network security perspective it would be better for your IT dept if they blocked it, but if they hav'nt then lucky you.

BTW, Ping does'nt work for me.

I hadn't thought of pinging it...but it didn't work (said it couldn't find the host)

Oh funny, I now see that the CFC main page is blocked but the forums are not...
