Here is my empire as it stands right now. As you can se that I am stuck on a peninsula thus I will need to fight my way out of the situation.

Here is my second city, Hamburg. I settled there so that I could get use of those incense that are near by. Once I get CS, I plan on irrigating that area so that I can put the incense to use, but getting Calendar is a very viable option, since I have two calendar resources near by, one in this city and one in my thrid city Munich, being sugar.

Personally i nearly never build swordsmen in MP- there useless.

I am building them since my future opponenet, Bjarker does not have any metal connected and as such having CA Swords will be of great use in taking his cities. Normally I would not use them myself either, but I think it is worth it for this type of attack against archers only and warriors.
