CDZ Cup Second Edition

[shout]
I’m opening the thread for the second edition of the CDZ Cup. Since we’re 12 teams recorded at ‘Who has what team?’, I’m considering a way to put all teams together.

The 2nd CDZ Cup will start on April 7 (April 6 for games played in UK).

Please confirm participation, and I’ll track down the players that forgot all about CDZ and our prestigious Cup. We will use the ranking of the first edition to define the teams in each groups but I’ll get back to you on that.

Suggestions welcome.

PS: tell me if we want to use the cupmanager.org site or not. I will keep separate results here anyway.

- I want to join!
- I don't really care if we use cupmanager.org or not, I'd say use what's most convenient for you

Shabbaman 25-03-2004 08:38

I'm in. Thanks for the reminder of the UK games [rolleyes]
Who wants to play a friendly next wednesday? A rematch meli ;) ?

Kingreno 25-03-2004 15:46

That's a deal! Unfortuntely it's impossible to fix friendlies atm, but that should be possible any time. At least, before next tuesday ;)

yndy 26-03-2004 16:04

Thanks guys, I've sent the others HT-mails to let them know. I just notice we're only 11 [blush]

English_brit 27-03-2004 11:45

How do you do the Cup. I take it you play the games in people's friendly slots each week? Or do you use the game simulators?

Cruise 28-03-2004 19:36

I am interested, but what is the setup of this cup?

Bootstoots 28-03-2004 21:19

I'll join. I'm currently in a cup but I will drop out of that one after the friendly this tuesday.

yndy 29-03-2004 07:59

This is the setup I propose for 10 teams, Hakon (Edit: and Matrix) declined, Cruise is asking for more info but counted him in, (Edit: one slot open).

-Drawing of teams in each group will be later today;
-Home/away settings will be decided after drawing to balance things;
-Home/away settings for Rounds 6 and Round 7 will be decided after Round 5 and Round 6;
-Games will be played as friendlies [u]with Cup Rules (although results after 90 minutes will be recorded)</u> and booked accordingly in Hattrick; Challanges should be accepted by Friday evening or I'll spam your inbox at HT, CDZ and home.

Looking forward to the first match with english brit :)

No, when one team plays a Bot, they actually get a 5-0 win in the CDZ Cup and the team can arrange other friendly.

ok, so it's just a walk-over

1730 spectators had come to The Yellow Boot this cloudy day. Yellow tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Baicu - Dias, Evertorp, Knott - James, Negron, Kane, Buffington, Talley - Lara, Vazquez.

Aristocats started off with a 5-4-1 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Vugts - Sulaiman, Royle, Maassen, van den Burg, Salman - Tomic, Hoogerheide, Keller, Spirito - Maas.

It was an obvious ambition of Yellow to attack on the flanks. Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Aristocats. Aristocats almost scored after a counterattack 29 minutes into the match, but Serge Maas took a shot from the left that landed harmlessly in the side of the net. Jamie Negron gave his Yellow the lead with 1 - 0, as he successfully challenged both the guests central defenders, then placed the ball unreachably at the goaltenders right post. A bit later, a magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Yellow´s Randy Knott putting the lead up to 2 - 0. The referee showed Yellows Maurice Talley the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. The referee showed Aristocatss Serge Maas the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. The home sides Maurice Talley twisted a free kick home in the 41st minute, putting Yellow ahead 3 - 0. The structure of the game started to change as Yellow decided to pull back and meet their opponents in the defensive zone. Halftime score was 3 - 0. The fortyfive minutes were dominated by Yellow, with an impressive 56 percent possession of the ball.

In the 46:th minute Wout van den Burg had a fantastic opportunity to reply but his shot hit the side of the goal. Yellow put themselves up 4 - 0 when Rubén Lara broke through on the right, leaving the entire defensive box behind him. Aristocats will have to do without Geert Hoogerheide for a time due to a bad foot injury. He was substituted by Falko Claessens. Mansoor Rasheed Sulaiman could´ve grabbed a goal in the 55:th minute when he got a pass putting him free of the home side´s defence, but he was unable to take advantage of the situation. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Yellow´s Rubén Lara got himself booked. The fortyfive minutes were dominated by Aristocats, with an impressive 63 percent possession of the ball.

The most dominating Yellow player was without a doubt Victor Baicu. Peter Evertorp was a disappointment, however. Most important Aristocats player was Wout van den Burg. However, Sleiman Salman made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 4 - 0.
After not winning any CDZ cup matches last season, this was a good change. Good luck to all in this cup!

Kingreno 08-04-2004 06:29

Congrats to Yellow Boots.[party]

The return trip to Netherlands was an unhappy one as Geert Hoogerheide will be out for more then a month.[cry]

quote:A scorching day at Sticla T-veni Arena, where 2677 spectators were in place for today´s match. Sticla started off with a 3-4-3 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Vlad - Rădulescu, Spiridon, Tutuianu - Ungureanu, Barbu, Codreanu, Bănica - Mĺrtensson, Timou, Macavei.

Acorazado had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. Lineup: Farruggia - Hoekstra, Wijnen, Kal - van der Tempel, Geijtenbeek, Remmen, Honeydew, van der Klauw - Berg, Ernst.

Acorazado´s Noël van der Klauw gave the visitors a 0 - 1 lead in the 7:th minute with a superb strike from the right. Acorazado´s Kelvin van der Tempel received a play slashing through the home side´s defense in the 7:th minute, chipping it past the keeper scoring 0 - 2. The home crowd was not pleased with that one. As Barbu Ungureanu had, completely unprovoked, swept the legs out from under an opponent in front of a linesman, the referee gave the Sticla player a red card without batting an eye. Thijs Geijtenbeek of Acorazado received a yellow card in the 27:th minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour. Halftime score was 0 - 2. Acorazado held the ball, with a clear 51 percent possession rate.

Petrut Bănica behaved like an inexperienced youth player in the 51st minute as he gave the ball away to an opponent. Lucky for him though, there was no goal. Sticlas Tyree Timou went wide in the 59:th minute, recieving a brilliant pass slicing through the visiting teams central defense line, putting the 1 - 2 goal away. Cătălin Rădulescu was just a finger´s breadth away from an equaliser for Sticla, but Brooks Farruggia managed to ward the closing shot off for a corner. After 73 minutes George Macavei got through on the right and was very close to equalising for the home side, but didn´t get the shot away. Unsportsmanlike behaviour by Thijs Geijtenbeek rendered him his second booking of the match, and Acorazado had to finish the game with a reduced squad. Ionut Codreanu pulled a real crowd pleaser as he, in the 79:th minute, wove through the guests whole central defense line and put the 2 - 2 equaliser away. Sticla, bringing the final ball possession rate to 77 percent, dominated the battle.

After the regular 90 minutes, the agony of overtime followed. Florin Spiridon gave his Sticla the lead with 3 - 2, as he successfully challenged both the guests central defenders, then placed the ball unreachably at the goaltenders right post. With that Sticla had won the game in extra time. The most dominating Sticla player was without a doubt Tyree Timou. Petrut Bănica on the other hand, had a terrible day. The most dominating Acorazado player was without a doubt Jason Hoekstra. Helmut Remmen was a disappointment, however. The match ends 3 - 2.
Under the 90 minutes rule, the game will be listed as a 2 - 2 draw. On the bright side the fans probably found the game very entertaining as we had a record EUR8.5k from gate fees for each side. That should pay for Schip's travel expenses.

PP SV - Meli's Manglers 0 - 7

View game: HT Live
Date: 07-04-2004 at 17:30
MatchID: 17777866
Arena: PP SV Arena
Crowd: 1044

Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 1044 to PP SV Arena. PP tactics involved an interesting 5-4-1 combination. The following players had been chosen: Pietrek - Kiilerich, van Bommel, Kamperman, Bakker, Nobbe - Johnston, de Moll, Waltmans, Duarte - Langelaan.

Manglers had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. They fielded: Cabezas - Spreadbury, Turner, Bryan - Hautala, Hornabrook, Alistair, Davis, Quigley-Parks - Greenwood, Carroll.

PP clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could, using their talent for it. Jelmer Waltmans received some harsh words from his coach after he acted foolishly, probably out of lack of experience, in the 2nd minute and almost caused an opponent to score. After 2 minutes Manglerss Andy Quigley-Parks made his way through the middle, putting the visitors up 0 - 1. Manglers´s Ian Turner refused to leave the field after injuring his achilles tendon in the 3rd minute. Manglers nearly produced a goal as Ian Turner set up Andy Quigley-Parks for a strike from a seemingly impossible angle. The receiver wasn´t as clear-headed though, and put the shot wide. Manglers´s Roddy Carroll received a play slashing through the home side´s defense in the 32nd minute, chipping it past the keeper scoring 0 - 2. The home crowd was not pleased with that one. The game had been on for 35 minutes when Roddy Carroll broke through to the right, upping the score to the home crowd´s dismay. Manglers´s were up 0 - 3. David Spreadbury could have added one to the visitors lead if his free kick had gone just a little lower. After 40 minutes PP´s Yvo Langelaan contracted a slight foot injury, but could finish the game. Halftime score was 0 - 3. Manglers held the ball, with a clear 82 percent possession rate.

Andy Quigley-Parks was dominating his wing and kept sending fine balls into the enemy box - Walsh Greenwood managed to kick one of them into 0 - 4 in the 50:th minute. The structure of the game started to change as Manglers decided to pull back and meet their opponents in the defensive zone. The referee showed Manglerss Mark Bryan the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Due to a severely mistimed tackle,Roman Pietrek spent some time on the grass writhing in agony before he could get up and continue the game. Roddy Carroll increased the visitors lead by putting a volley shot away on a pass from the right. 0 - 5. This third goal made a hat trick for Roddy Carroll. David Spreadbury hit the ball just perfect in the 73rd minute and could score for Manglers with a fab long shot to 0 - 6. Eric Hautala increased the visitors lead by putting a volley shot away on a pass from the right. 0 - 7. Manglers, bringing the final ball possession rate to 78 percent, dominated the battle.

Most important PP player was Roman Pietrek. Yvo Langelaan on the other hand, had a terrible day. Manglers´s best player was Alan Hornabrook. However, Ian Turner made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 0 - 7.
A clear defeat. To the defencve of my players I need to say that both players and crowd where in shock and horror to see Meli's Manglers field Rudy Carrel!!!!(Outlined in match report) While trying to hide his real identity by altering his name a bit, his gray hair and horrible accent gave him away instantly. Most players had to consult the team psychologist after this dreaded encounter. Hopefully they'll recover before the important match next sunday.

Melifluous 08-04-2004 18:26

My deepest sympathies PP...

I inadvertantly played my first squad (the one that still has me at the top of my division). I didnt have the time to change my squad as I have been away from the office working around the country...

Bad form I know, playing your first team but its my training I miss out on [cry]

Sorry about that. Beats having a 28 year old solid playmaker go out for 7 weeks though, like what happened to me in the first league match of this season. ;) He's currently at +3 weeks.

Toffees had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation. The following players had been chosen: MacFadyen - Russell, Williams, Irons - Attah-Agyeman, Homer, Haynes, Penn - Holmes, McLean, Edwards.

After a fine move down the middle Huibert Bruens nearly gave the home side one up in the 8:th minute. The finishing shot went just wide, though. Toffees will have to do without Joe Williams for a time due to a bad foot injury. He was substituted by Lee Hickey. With 26 minutes played Jochum Mentink almost gave the home side the lead with an unexpected free kick set up, but visitors Jason MacFadyen was onto it, grabbing the would be break through ball. Some beautiful plays on the left side of the field resulted in a 28:th minute goal by Eddy Onland for Cruise, putting them ahead 1 - 0. After 38 minutes Friso Havers put Cruise ahead 2 - 0 as he rose to head in a hooked ball, the result of an effort from the right side. The home side´s Eddy Onland came close to extending the lead in the 38:th minute. His shot came in off the right hand side but Jason MacFadyen managed saving with a fingernail. 2 - 0 was the half-time score. Cruise, bringing the final ball possession rate to 68 percent, dominated the battle.

In the games 61st minute Toffees´s Robbie Edwards fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee booked Robbie Edwards for taking a dive. A bit later, a magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Cruise´s Friso Havers putting the lead up to 3 - 0. In the 84:th minute of the match the visitors central line of defence had to look on as Friso Havers dashed through, knocking home 4 - 0 for Cruise. By then Friso Havers was a three time scorer - a hat trick! Eddy Onland almost managed to score another goal for Cruise, but his header was tipped to a corner by the visitors goalie. The referee showed Cruises Eddy Onland the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Cruise held the ball, with a clear 68 percent possession rate.

The most dominating Cruise player was without a doubt Jochum Mentink. However, Vijaya-Bhupathi Murherjee made a disastrous appearance. The most dominating Toffees player was without a doubt Kirk Haynes. Jason MacFadyen on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 4 - 0.
Nice result cruise. :)

Wish I could have played a 3-5-2 but training scoring atm so being forced to play 3 up front. :(

Get the feeling I'm gonna do badly in this Cup. lol

Dell19 14-04-2004 10:04

So apparently I play everyone away so who should be challenging me as its not entirely clear whether I'm meant to play against Shabbaman or whether the 5-0 result stands?

Shabbaman 14-04-2004 10:26

Hmmm...

Well, you 'd have to play Cruise today, but I think he's a friendly arranged already. You could join next week, and I guess Yndy could balance the home/away games a bit.

Dell19 14-04-2004 11:29

I think it would be easier for me to join the next cup, as I will have already missed two games.

Shabbaman 14-04-2004 12:52

Well, you could, but when you join you'd at least have friendlies for the next three weeks.

Dell19 14-04-2004 13:17

Okay I will play then but it would nice to have a home match rather than all away games.

yndy 14-04-2004 14:30

Welcome aboard Dell19, I switched your game with me so that you now play one international away and one home. Your game with Meli is a national friendly so no costs for you, even an advantage as presumably Meli has a larger number of supporters in his club.

There will be some re-balancing at the end of the groups phase as well so don't worry. Also the matches are full of surprise results (see PP vs. Meli and Meli vs. English brit's Toffee Utd) so you might get a good place anyway.

Everybody, notice how English_brit trashed Meli [cyclops]
