Downtime & database error
Forum was down today because of a database error. Those error's happen once in a while and are caused by the database server, our database is fine. No worries there.
Contacted the ISP, he applied some quick fix to try and prevent the errors. Will keep you posted. Sorry for the inconvenience. PP |
Hadn't noticed anything. [tongue]

Noticed something similar the other day, didnt take too long before it worked again though
|
Noticed it yesterday. Good to see it is in the air again.

Yay we're back!

Yeah, interesting story there. So I pay a rather large company a fair amount to park our domain name and redirect it to our host. They trashed our DNS records and ruined the redirect. They don't have a clue how that happened. As I called after 18:00 yesterday they refused to help untill 8am. After hours service is for large clients only, even if they mess things up themselves. Go figure.
IS online.nl -> bunch of idiots with crap customer service. Keep that in mind when you have to select an ISP one of these days :) |
Better prepare The Fist for them next time [punch]

Get some money back!

Still, the actual domain hosting is costing 15 euro a year and they are providing some actual drive space and computer power to us. This ISP has always reacted within the hour when I sent a support ticket. Even on occasions around midnight during weekends. |

18 euro's. Depends if you go to a pub or just buy a case in the supermarket.
still I dont think they're gonna refund 18 euros for 1 day of downtime. Even if they return 10% we'll be hard pressed to find a pub to buy one beer from that refund |
We could buy bonds or stocks and we'll be RICH!
|
I don't think I could access here for more than 1 day. Perhaps 2 or even 3!
|
Well, took me more than a week but stuff is fixed.
What can I say. ISP upgraded MySql, but didnt tell anyone. Stuff went belly up and their reaction was to unplug the phone cause they needed all their time to fix stuff. After they fixed it, still didn't work here. Spent an hour or so on the phone with them to no avail. After that I managed to solve stuff myself. Happy posting again! |

We're back, and we haven't even lost the last 18 months worth of spam!
[spam] HURRAY! |
Luckily our ISP has better backup practices than I do. :)
Still, we need to upgrade to VB4 or 5, because MySql 5 and VB3.x don't like each other that much. I still don't know what happened to our database, our ISP suspects a hack and I changed all relevant passwords but I'm not so sure of that. I didnt find any recently uploaded or changed files, nor did our ISP, which is to be expected in case of a hack. I wouldn't be suprised if some MySql update ruined the database or that the combination of VB3.x and MySql5 somehow made the forum drop the majority of the tables. I will be backupping regularly from now though. PP |
Kudos for keeping this site up and running after more than ten years anyway. :D
